Systemic Racism?

The St Jean Baptiste parade in 2017 was of incredibly poor taste.  There are those who say there was no intention of racism. But please, what rock are people living under. Having a float pulled by visible minorities while the people on the floats are white DRESSED IN FUCKING WHITE????? You have to be braindead to not see racism.

It doesn't matter what the intentions were, it made Quebec look particularly racist.

Then the next day I find this gem on Journal de Montreal, where apparently it's common for personnel companies to be asked not to hire blacks! Like this is 2017.  Really?   I am 54. I grew up in Montreal and my neighbours as a child was a Haitian family. Blacks have been in Quebec for more than 50 years. What is wrong with people that they just see colour and not a human with skills?

I work in an engineering firm and hire interns 3 times a year. I tend to give interviews to every female that applies, regardless of her nationality, religion or country of origin. [Sometimes I can go a year without interviewing a female student] Over the years I've hired women from just about every nationality, including some born in Africa, who came to Canada just to study.  I'm always told internships are supposed to  help students. The students it helps the most is those who's family aren't likely to find them a job  in the field.

Don't get me wrong I also hire men and they are also from everywhere in the world. One African man I hired, just blew my mind. He grew up in a village with no electricity and he was one of the people who helped put up electrical poles and cabling and he was so amazed by electricity that he went to the nearest big city to take an Electrician's course. But he wanted more and eventually made his way to Canada to do an engineering degree.

What prevents me from hiring people is a bad attitude in the interview. Your race, religion, skin colour or gender isn't what will affect my decision.

Is it the 1940's ?

No wait, today is 2015.

Someone should inform Donald Trump. "The Donald" seems to espouse racism we thought we had eliminated after the 2nd world war.

It amazes me how many people support this twit. His stance on Muslims, wanting to ban them from America is about as clever as Germany's ban on Jewish people. It won't finish well for anyone.

Personally I have no problems with Islam.  I have problems with Fundamentalist Muslims but I have problems with Fundamentalist anything.  And I definitely have problems with anyone trying to shove anything down my throat, especially religion. Don't tell me who I can pray to.

Also imagine that, I'm not a follower of the great 3 religions. I haven't been a Christian since the age of 6, my mom isn't Jewish and I've never converted to Islam, but if I had to choose out of the 3 I would probably choose Islam.    However often I'm more caring about people then those who found or have religion. Imagine what that says about me. I'm not nice to others because Jesus tells me to, I'm nice to others because I believe in being nice!

They answered.

I had sent a complaint in regards to the racist graffiti I had seen in the Parc Plaisance last week-end. They replied that they really appreciated that I sent the photo and my complaint, that with the number of picnic tables in the park it's hard to inspect them all. They also said they sent out a crew to rectify the problem.

It still sucks there are people out there who are racist!

Unimpressed at the racism.

In the group camping section of  Parc National Plaisance group camping, there is a picnic table with racist remarks on it.

I was unimpressed. Not at the park people, because they probably didn't see it, or if they don't read English, they might not have understood it.

I'm unimpressed with the multiple idiots who felt it necessary to add their comments. This has no place in this day and age.

I did sent a complaint to the park with the photo attached the night I got home. I did not get any reply but I don't expect to. I would hope that they do something about it.

Racist remarks have no place in public parks!

Discrimination rears it's ugly head

Article in the New York times had me shaking my head. Apparently most employers only want to hire people who are already employed. Which will leave those unemployed looking for work still unemployed. Sure some of the unemployed were poor employees and that's why they were laid off, but some were downsized because the company was downsizing and it has nothing to do with their performance.  To me it's a form of discrimination. You can't discriminate over gender, and race but you can discriminate over whether the person you're interviewing is employed or not?

Speaking of discrimination, this article I came across yesterday had me pretty mad. This kind of racism should not exist anymore but it does. I was pretty unimpressed. What does race have to do with anything?  It used to be people were racist to your face, now it's more hidden because of political correctness. It doesn't mean it's not there anymore. You'd think we were still in the 50's!
