More First Nations vote, and get voted in

Historically many aboriginals in Canada do not vote in Federal elections, they consider them to be a farce, and to make no difference. I'm not sure if they wanted to #heavesteve that badly, or even if the presence of Ashley Callingbull, as Mrs Universe made a difference, but the first nations came out to vote in numbers. Several polling stations in the far north ran out of ballots. Tons of people not on the roster came to register to vote. Apparently 20% more first nations people came to vote than before.  Also 10 Natives got voted it, the most ever. Congrats to everyone who got in!

This is absolutely awesome. I'm glad they helped get rid of Harper. shudder.

Saleh steps down but doesn't get it!!!!

One of the last things Saleh did as he FINALLY stepped down in Yemen was to give amnesty to all the people who fought for him and his government.  This is angering many Yemeni's who feel that since he signed off to leave he does not have the power to take this decision. In fact Tawakol Karmin wants an inquiry and she wants those responsible for the deaths of civilians brought to justice.

There's been historic elections in Egypt, here's hoping this newly elected government is closer to democracy then anything Egypt has ever seen.

Turkey has finally made good on it's threats to impose sanctions on Syria.  Turkey has also said it won't deal with Assad's government anymore. It's waiting to deal with a new leader of Syria.

Closer to home, several Canadian firms have been hacked over this PotashCorp bid. Sadly it doesn't seem to be the work of Anonymous to destroy the sale all together, but from a competitor who's trying to get insider information.

My biggest beef in the past 2 days though has been the fact that a Native community called Attawapiskat has been asking for help for over a month. Our officials had time to play kick out the occupiers in various cities but has not found any time to address the human crisis going on in this native community.  A bunch of protesters with tents really must be removed. Never mind that the living conditions in this native reserve are probably worse then any condition at any of the Occupy sites in Canada! Something to think about while you drink your morning coffee.

PUBLIC BANISHMENT ORDER: Issued against the Corporations known as the Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Church, and United Church of Canada

This is a step towards healing in Native Communities. They have undoubtedly been hit the hardest by sexual and physical abuse perpetrated by the clergy of the said churches over at least a century. The reason I say this is because native children were put into residential schools run by the clergy. These poor children had nowhere to go during the entirety of their formative years.  I could go on about things clergy did which amount in some cases to genocide. 

This is a positive step and I hope that it will encourage healing of the various communities the hardest hit by "religion".

Manitoba first Nation needs new home

I've been blogging a lot about Syria and the Arab Spring/Summer whatever you want to call it now. But I haven't blogged much about Canada recently.  There are people in Canada who's rights are ignored or eroded for the most part. That would be the people from Canada's first nations.

People from the Lake St. Martin First Nation have had to be displaced yet again due to flooding. It happens frequently that they are displaced due to flooding but this year's disaster has doomed the reserve. It's no longer fit for habitation. The people want to move close by to where they used to live, far away from white settlements, which just brings drugs and alcohol along with the problems that go with it, into the native community.  They want out of Winnipeg at the moment, that's for sure.

I don't know how this will be addressed by  Harper's government, as they seem to think natives are just like any other Canadian and don't need special services.  When are people going to realize that not all humans have the same needs and lumping everyone into the same pile is not helpful to anyone?
