Fabric purchases

I bought fabric at Atlantic

Fabrics in Truro. Found out I missed out on a cool dragonfly print that sold out in record time. But I got two cool batiks from Bayan Batiks.

Also a photo of cotton prints I bought from fabricville for stress sewing after Terry packed all my woven cotton prints.

Some you might recognize in dresses already sewn. Notice the nautical themes & fishies.

Fabric from club tissue

From Club Tissu in St Hubert
Club Tissu in Laval
At the club tissu in laval, on boxing day I picked up 4 pieces of fabric. Two cottons, a leopard print and a pink/black design. The blue/black leopard is a rayon knit and the circular print is a rayon woven.

At the club tissu in St Hubert I got some red Merino wool, and some pink Rayon woven. Disappointed. Usually my Club Tissu Christmas trip I buy far more fabric.

Trip to Fabricville and Textile store on Sunnybrooke

On Saturday I met my old work colleage and we went fabric shopping.  We went to the textile place in DDO on Sunnybrooke near Spring Garden. They have beautiful silks for $4 a meter.  I didn't like the texture of the black silk, but loved the purple one.  The store is a cash only place so I knew I would have to go back. They also have cotton voile in about 50 colours for $3 a meter.  So if I need thin cotton for lining or some thin silk I know where to go.

We also stopped at Fabricville, I got  3 meters of brown fabric to use as a border to a red dragonfly dress. We thought 3 meters seemed a lot, after cutting the border and tie for dress, I had no left overs. Not even to make the lining of the bodice, I had to use the main fabric.  I got some more of the plaid skull flannel since it was still dirt cheap and my bf seems to like it.

I have to go Monday to pick up buttons for my green flamingo nightshirt. Despite the quantity of buttons I have at home, none matched this colour.

Trip to club Tissu

Turquoise dragonfly print, green flamingos flannel, green batik and a lovely burgundy butterfly print
Rayon knits, my favourite for dresses.
My sweetie asked me what I wanted for Christmas and said I wanted a trip to club Tissu in St Hubert. We went december 31st, and they had a 40% off if you bought the end of a roll.

Well as it happens I bought 3 ends of rolls.  One was a DRAGONFLY print, got 4 meters. One was a green flamingo flannel, that had about 2 meters and the last one was a green batik with about 1.75 meters.

I like Atlantic Fabrics

My eldest had told me about Atlantic Fabrics at Christmas time and when we were talking the other night, Terry asks me if I want to visit the Fabric stores in Halifax. So we went  and I found all sorts of Dragonfly fabric. They actually had 5 different dragonfly fabrics. The red one I bought came in 3 colours, but the red looked nicest, The black fabric I got came in black and green, but the green was tacky.
Didn't buy, I hate yellow

Was only 1.4 meters but took it all

THe 3 dragonfly fabrics I did buy
I could have spent hours at Atlantic Fabrics. This was the one in Darmouth.

I intend to go to the one in Truro and the one in New Glasgow when I go to Cape Breton this summer. Will have to see if I can borrow daughter's member card!

Went to Club Tissu

Sunday I went to club Tissu. Was hoping to get some baby cotton knits and possibly some white snap tape. Realized they no longer have a baby cotton knit collection at the one in Laval. I guess it didn't sell well last year so they no longer have it. Instead they had cotton knit prints for close to $30 a meter. Bleah.

I did find 2 types of baby terry cloth for $5.65 a meter, that was a great price, bought a meter of each, and I found a Rayon knit that I knew if I didn't get Sunday I would never get.

Rayon is green-blue, the terry cloth is the bright colours.

Underwear pattern
They had the Jalie men's underwear pattern I wanted.  But they didn't even have white snap tape. They had dark blue and black. Who would use that for baby wear?

I had to get my white snap tape at Fabricville today.

Love the new Spring Rayons

Fabricville had a 2 day sale with 50% off their spring fabrics. I went after work yesterday with my bf to check out the rayons.

The reddish-green one is a Rayon poplin, the softest rayon ever. The green and black one is a voile, so thin, so nice. The bluish print is a crinkled rayon. I haven't found any in years.  Very happy. Now I have so many dresses to make.. Oh My!

She's got good taste I tell ya

Of course no trip to Club tissu would have been perfect without Zoey wanting some fabric. These are the 2 fabrics she chose to make summer dresses.  A turquoise blue cotton print with flowers, and a pink and purple rayon print that's very soft.

Fabrics for making things for my offspring...

Fabrics from Club Tissu

It's a soft lavender print with silly sheep

Terry cloth lined baby print

Solid knits for maternity & nursing tops

Duck flannel print.
Turns out my photos are really dark. The solid knits for maternity tops are first a red organic cotton knit, then there is a royal blue  polyester/rayon knit, a greyish blue polyester/rayon knit, and a purple polyester/cotton knit.  On the first photo the dark geometric print is a very fine corduroy. It's a purple/hot pink design and I think it might make great pants and jaclet for the baby.

Fabrics Galore

I must say, The Club Tissu in St Hubert, on the South shore of  Montreal is something else It doesn't compare to the one in Laval. I spent $215 on fabrics, and bought 21 metres. So roughly $10 per metre.

However 2 fabrics were expensive, the dragonfly batik @ $15 a metre and the red bamboo rayon print, which was $17 a metre.  That means $85 was spent on 2 pieces of fabric or 5 metres..   Another way to look at it is that I left with 10 pieces of fabric. All those fabrics not for babies will make 1 item of clothes and baby fabrics may make 2 - 3 pieces of clothes. So for $215 I will be able to make probably around 15 different garments. I had picked up 2 fabrics at the Club Tissu in Laval on Friday. A green with flowers quilting cotton, and a flowery rayon knit.

Bamboo knit
Dragonfly batik
Quilting cotton @ $5 a metre

Quilting cotton @ $5 a metre
Rayon knit half price
Merino wool knit - some pinkish red solid print

Usmania Cuisine

Friday I was corralled into going to help a friend figure out what type wedding dress suits her best. She brought along her 3 bridesmaid and her mom.  We all knew her mom was going to be difficult and we were not surprised.

At least my friend found a dress that suits her like a glove and inspiration to make her own. After the ordeal we decided to go to dinner. We figured since we were near the "Petit Alep" we'd go there. The food is out of this world. Unfortunately they take vacation at the same time as construction workers.

In the end we went to a Pakistani restaurant on Decarie near Cote Vertu metro called Usmania Cuisine. At least that was on their receipt. They had pakora's on their menu and I thought, how can I go wrong with Pakora's? When they are cooked in fucking WHEAT FLOUR. It's supposed to be chickpea flour. WTF? This great gluten free treat fucking full of gluten. THe batter looked disgusting and I could tell instantly that it was wheat.  Their lentil soup was ok. Though I was asked if I wanted it mild, medium or spicy, and I asked for Spicy. It was NOT SPICY. I would have barely qualified it as medium.  I think they look at me with my white skin and red hair and think "She doesn't want spicy"

The service was ok, the food was edible. But I would not go back. When I think of my two favourite Indian places, Pushaps and Punjab... this place sucked.  Heck even Qwality Indian food on sources has better food, and edible pakoras.

On the positive side, since we went dress shopping on ST Hubert Street, we fabric shopped at our favourite 2 places. Marina's, and this other place a block over, that sells everything for $2.99.

Small victories

I persevered and won! Last night was the third night in a row I attempted to finish cutting a dress. I succeeded last night without falling asleep. Would have been the third night in a row I fell asleep cutting the same dress.

Also found out the dates I'm being shipped to Toronto, From the 11th to the 14th of November. Remembrance day!  Will be in a minivan heading to Toronto at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month this year.

Here's a few cute cat photos. Just because

You go to work, I'll sunbathe!

But I have pretty green eyes!

I'm really chill
Toby attacking my Joe Fresh Army green vest, in it's bag
I should add I picked up another Joe down filled vest, this one Army green. I love the black one I got last year so much. I put it on and I don't have to wear 1001 more layers. The down keeps me warm.

Cats love to sit on anything you put on the floor.

Whether it's fabric that I lay out on the floor or whether it's a Sarong I want to take a photo.. The cats MUST investigate.

Oh look she got a new Sarong,  Sniff it, sit on it, go go go
Sarong from Costa Rica.
I needed retail therapy on Friday. Stopped in at value village to find this sarong. Also stopped at Fabricville to buy some batik fabric.  So pretty. Want a batik that can work as a winter dress as well.  Also want to find fabric to make a medieval inspired dress.

Rayon vs Viscose

Some 20 something male tried telling me at Club Tissu that Rayon and Viscose was the same thing. Ummm. no, it isn't. Viscose can be made of Rayon but not all Rayons are viscose. Click here for more details

Finally finished the dress

This dress took me forever to finish because the neckline was bunching up    The over-stitching I had used to tryto resolve the issue made it worse. So I removed it and in the end decided to use fabric glue to resolve the issue.

If I re-use this pattern I'll make it 2 sizes smaller. With the stretch in the knit it would have fit much better.

I do love the "Morticia" sleeves on this dress
