It was like a scene right out of Lucky Luke!

The first time I saw a Turkey Vulture a few years back I was just getting acquainted with how the wings of a bird of prey look. At first I used to confuse them with eagles as their wing span is similarly shaped, but you can always tell them apart because Turkey vultures have paler wings then their bodies. When I first looked it up, I realized that those birds did not used to come as far north as Southern Quebec & Ontario, but now they do. All maps that show their territory show them far more south. But each summer I see more. This time it was creepy. Two trees at a distance overlooking Charleston lake there was 13 - yes count them 13 Turkey vultures. It made me think of Lucky Luke.

2015 is not a year for camping or canoeing it seems?

Well this past week-end I did not canoe or camp.  My friend and I were supposed to go camping & canoeing 3 days, but then things changed.  Not a bad thing, I didn't even have much energy at all. Spent most of the week-end vegging in bed listening to music.

We did go picnic with our Lafleurs at the Pierrefonds Marina. We saw a mom woodpecker and it's yearling hanging out different trees.  We did see a pair of ducks as well.

The one thing that I was happy to see was a couple with a toddler, put a canoe into the water there, and canoe off and it seemed to canoe ok. So this is another place to take the canoe for a quick ride.

Good site for bird identification

Most of the birds I run into around the woods, or around my house can be found here.  It helped me figure out the difference between the black-capped Chickadee and the white-breasted nuthatch.

Misidentified

Last week when I put up photos of the birds in Bois de Liesse, I had originally thought that a white-breasted nuthatch was a black-capped chickadee.  I've put photos of them side by side, they are different. What is amusing is that after mislabelling that bird, the only birds I have run across since have been black-capped chickadees :)
