Quoted from a Facebook friend who is far more articulate then I am:
This
year, I am not celebrating Canada Day. I am not proud of my country
right now. During the Harper regime (or as we will hopefully call it
eventually - interregnum) we have sat and watched our elected leaders
remove protections for our environment, extol profit over community,
muzzle scientists, state categorically that oil and business interests
trump human rights, lie to our faces and get away with it, and treated
our international and internal promises, ties and commitments like
jokes, along with the democratic process.
And as a nation, we have, for the most part, simply shrugged our shoulders and accepted it as though we had no say.
Not really very proud today.
