No sympathy for Catholic Church

Most people know I'm an ex-Catholic. I decided at age 6 that the Catholic religion was full of hypocrites and I would rather go to hell than follow it's teachings.

The Catholic church has been in the news lately in regards to residential school. I can't imagine the trauma families must have felt having to part with their children.

Why the church isn't apologizing is beyond me. But then pedophile priests still get quietly shuffled around to new locations instead of being defrocked.

It's part of a same pattern. The rich, those in power ( in the church) can do no wrong. They can break every single law of man and with contrition and prayer be absolved.

My mom on her death bed said if she was refused heaven because she refused to say she was a sinner and have the last rights... she didn't want to go to heaven.

I was traumatized in church. My mom was often sick when I was little and my mom would let me go to Sunday mass alone. I'd usually go to pray that my mom would be better. When I went alone I'd sit in the middle front pew. At 6 I was quite thin and short and didn't look much more than 5.

That particular Sunday, once mass started an intellectually deficient young adult came, pushed me over and sat next to me near the aisle. He prevented me from going to communion and kept me captive in the seat until 10 minutes past the end of the service. This was in full view of the priest and the entire congregation. ( I was kept captive in total  for about an hour)

Not one person came to save me.  But by the time I got home half the parish had called my mom to tell her what happened.

That day I lost my faith. All these people in their Sunday best watched me being bullied and did nothing...  they didn't want to disrupt the service. They thought it was ok for an adult to hurt a small child in plain view.

I've never been angry at the adult who bullied me. He didn't understand. But that day I lost respect for most adults and most people.

Catholic church sex abuse victims want ICC prosecutions

Article on Al Jazeera says that victims want the pope and 3 others prosecuted for crimes against humanity. I hope they do take it to court. The sexual crimes of the Catholic church have been going on for too long and it's about time that they be held accountable.

Vatican still in heavy denial

Personally I don't think the Catholic church has any credibility left. The fact that priests and higher ups in the Catholic church were able to abuse children, in particular boys is appalling. The fact that the catholic church has been denying it for years is downright disgusting.

The Nile isn't just a river in Egypt!!! The worst part is that it wasn't just one lone priest in ONE country. Catholic priest sex scandals have popped up on several continents and I'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg. A large percentage of people affected would rather never talk about it again.

The only way to make restitution and to have any semblance of belief is to apologize. Trying to hide what happened makes it worse. Nothing can be worse then telling someone who has been raped, molested and/or physically abused, that nothing happened.

Not only does the person feel enormous amounts of guilt, and sometimes also feel responsible for their own misfortune, but saying it never happened is like removing any kind of right to having any kind of emotion for suffering as a child in the hands of morally bankrupt deviants who get to say whether we go to heaven or hell?

If the Catholic Church does not start being transparent instead of secretive and repentant instead of defiant, there will not be much of a church to talk about.  Personally if I was still a staunch catholic I would not let my children ANYWHERE near a priest.  In fact I'd worry about any person who was too interested in my children. I'd wonder what kind of ulterior motive they might have.

There are some Catholics that have had it with the Vatican as well.  I can understand personally I was six when I decided that there were more hypocrites, liar and cheaters then real pious Catholics. It was all about saying you were a good Catholic and concealing all the immoral things you did in the background when it wasn't Sunday.

Catholic Church should clean house

I was born into a French Canadian Catholic family and by age 6 I'd chosen to not be a Catholic because I really didn't like how hypocritical Catholic adults could be. I mean the bible tells us to do onto others as we would like others to do onto us. However I saw more of a "Do as I say and not as I do". I also saw too much 'sinning' done on a regular basis, and it was all good so long as you confess to your sins and atone for them. Then start all over again the next week.

Obviously not everyone in the Catholic church is a serial sinning hypocrite, but there were enough who were to turn me off the Catholic religion by age 6. I'm just as turned off now by the statements made by the Vatican in regards to 'gossip' about sexual abuse by priests.

Just because everything was done hush hush and no one talked about it back then does not make it any less bad. Anyone who was sexual abused, raped or molested, whether as a child or an adult, knows that it leaves PERMANENT SCARS and some unfortunately identify with their abuser and perpetuate the circle by abusing others around them. Trying to tell someone who was abused or molested that it never happened keeps the deep seating guilt and shame alive and spoils their lives. Haven't they suffered enough? Can't those who abused at least take responsibility for their actions?

What the Vatican and Catholic church SHOULD be doing is cleaning house. ANY PRIEST who has been accused of molesting children should be retired from being a priest. If this had been done years ago as they were found AND NOT RELOCATED TO other places so they could continue to ruin lives, they wouldn't be trying so hard right now to pretend it never happened. Also trying to sweep what happened under the carpet is asinine. The people who were abused need an apology and not be told "This is vicious gossip". Usually when there is smoke there is fire. Denial isn't just a river in Egypt. Benedict should step down for his cover ups of abuse in the past

And what about the residential schools in Canada for Native Americans, who were taken as children from their family and beaten/molested/abused into becoming little white people clones. Beaten for talking their language or being native? The reason we have so many problems on our reservations have more to do with the CHRISTIAN priests abusing Native people then any other intervention the white men did.

Personally I think Jesus would be horrified with all that has transpired and wouldn't want to be associated at all with the Catholic church. How can a priest who has abused little boys think he can be a SPIRITUAL LEADERS for others? I would think one should show by example ....

As for my current beliefs, it's summed up in one phrase "And it harm none, do what thou wilt". Meaning that the first rule is to not HARM anyone or anything, including pets & other animals, the environment, mother earth and of course ourselves. Jesus would have no problem with my beliefs, even if I'm not a "Christian".
