I love it when Bob Newhart guest stars on various shows.
This year it's been on the Big Bang Theory. Previously it was on NCIS

Trying out new things.
Last night decided it was time to try out some new TV shows.. well new in a manner of speaking. I decided years ago that I'm no longer watching shows in Season 1. If it doesn't make it to Season 2, I don't want to get into it and be totally disappointed that the show has been cancelled. At least if it makes it to 4-5 seasons, if I like the show, it gives me enough episodes to watch.
Two of the shows I was watching last season included Private Practice, and Army Wives. Both were not renewed. The sucky thing about it, is that they were my chick shows. I seem to need a good chick show to get my emotions out.
So last night I watched the first 2 episodes of Person of Interest. I like the premise, I like the show so far. I also watched 2 episodes of HBO's Girls. Don't think Girls is going to be the chick show I'm looking for, but OMG it was funny. I mean it's a bit like watching a train wreck. It's not all good but you can't help but watch it?
Of course shows I don't like when I first watch can still grow on me. NCIS is a case in point. I first watched NCIS because there was nothing good on TV during that time slot. It easily took months of me watching it before Abby grew on me, and then Gibbs. Now of course it's my favourite show, and I've just recently rewatched it from season 1.

I hadn't noticed before
But the episode of NCIS guest starring Bob Newhart in season 8, also features Gibbs, and several agents singing "The Wheels on the bus".

I hate season finales....
Heck, I hate series finales. A couple of weeks back it was the last episode of In Plain Sight. I'm going to miss that show. And I watched the season finale of NCIS. Damn. Did Ducky have a heart attack? And how are those in the NCIS building? Who's dead? Like wow.
Now I have to wait all the way till September to know if my favourite character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, is ok, I know,... such hardship!
I only watched like a third of the last episode of Bones and just could not keep watching, so I might actually wait till September to watch it. Yes I'm really weird.

NCIS - always a favorite TV show
It's funny, I didn't warm up to NCIS until the 3rd or even 4th season. It was a pure fluke too, it played for a while at a time where there was nothing good to watch elsewhere. I remember hating the first few episodes I watched, all except for Abby. Finally I watched the show the from first episode and then just fell in love with the show.
More then that I really enjoy the character of Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Amusingly enough, I'm a redhead with attitude - which seems to be his preferred type of woman - if he really did exist. Then again in real life, I'd probably want to smack him upside the head, like he does to others from time to time too. It's not so much the actor either. I'm not crazy about Mark Harmon. Never liked him in anything before. I've seen some of St Elsewhere and Chicago hope, two series he played in for years and never cared for him or noticed him before as an actor.
I generally prefer darker men. I tend to prefer Mediterraneans - that is men with olive skin, dark wavy or curly hair and deep brown eyes. I also find Latino, middle-eastern and black men attractive. Here Mark Harmon has whitish hair and blue eyes - not my thing in the least - but he's attractive with it. Go figure ?
NCIS is in it's 9th season and I still really enjoy it. Strangely enough I think it was watching NCIS that partly inspired my daughter to join the Canadian Navy, other then the fact she thought she'd look smashing in a Navy uniform :)

What is it with me and army shows?
First it was NCIS - which I started to watch because nothing else was on at that time slot on TV and I thought Abby rocked. The show grew on me and now it is one of my favourite shows. I'm not as crazy about NCIS LA but I don't dislike it either.
I figured I might check out the original show, JAG. Judge Advocate General. I didn't think I'd like it, but I got hooked too. I don't think the show is realistic. I mean they really stretch the idea of what a Navy lawyer does, but the show is entertaining. I do look forward to seeing the two JAG episodes that introduce Leroy Jethro Gibbs and launched NCIS. But I have several seasons of material to watch before I get there.
Of course I'm also fond of M.A.S.H. and China Beach. Of course those are older and different. For some reason I keep finding some similarities between Dana Delany and Catherine Bell. Dressed in uniform they look so alike. Yet clearly Dana Delany on Desperate Housewives, and Catherine Bell on Army wives look very different. But I can't help compare them on China Beach/JAG.
While I wrote this I was watching JAG, the last episode of season 2.

Bob Newhart on NCIS
It was really weird to see Bob Newhart on NCIS in a serious role. In fact a role so touching it had tears in my eyes by the end of the show. It amused me that I have been watching old episodes of the Bob Newhart show famous of course for Larry and his brother Darryl and his other brother Darryl. And then out of nowhere, bam there's Bob Newhart.
I was drawing when I was watching NCIS, so I didn't have my glasses on and that's how I recognized him right away. Apparently he did the cameo appearance partly because it's his wife's favorite show :)

Big Bang Theory and other favorite shows.
Currently one of my favorite TV shows is the Big Bang Theory. While I attended Concordia University I was part of a group of nerds/geeks. I knew someone who was as bizarre as the character of Sheldon if you can believe it. I probably liked this TV show from the first time I watched an episode.
I spent way too much time with Star Trek fans. I mean to this day I can more or less tell you what episode it is just from the first minute or so. I'm talking original series. While I watched some of the later series at one point I just got really turned off by anything remotely trekish,
There's other shows like MASH that I never watched while it was on the air. I mean I'd seen an episode here and there, but never cared for the show. I suddenly grew fond of it back in 2001 and then needed a daily MASH fix. I own the entire series on DVD. I discovered in the past year another show from the same time frame China Beach, also something I never watched back then. It was brilliant But I suppose when it aired I was in a different place in my head and this type of show had no appeal.
Then there's NCIS, which at first I watched because there was nothing else to watch on TV but that during a certain time slot. It took me several weeks to get to know the characters. Now I just love the show, and especially the character Gibbs, though I never cared much either way for the actor who plays him.
